Re: Design Review / Sanity Check - Robust home network - ~$1,000 budget

This is enormous space, and you seem to plan to

provide WiFi coverage as if it were a tract house.

I have to assume it is also well-built, which means

thicker walls, more insulation, robust surface

treatments and lots of 'stuff' inside.

And apparently there is commercial activity: I

notice you are planning to do (isolated) steaming.

Without an actual layout with details of construction

and perhaps an aerial photo, I can't give you good

advice, but I'll guess you'll need at least 3 or 4

ceiling-mount access points in the house, For highest

WiFi data rates, use UAP-AC-Pro radios; don't use

the secondary ports for anything. Forget the 'entry'

as a location for any WiFi devices--that's plain wrong.

You'll need other radios for outside coverage, or for

the garage, pool or other secondary areas.

Of course, your use of a consumer WiFi device as

a router is not tenable but any of the EdgeRouters can

work here. I suggest you use all 'Web-managed' switches--

the price increment is small, and you can run VLANs. But

your budget is much too small for all these improvements.

You may want to consider a consultant for this project.   Dave
