You are the client on a routed (as opposed to bridged) OpenVPN tunnel so the server sets its own subnet and gives the client an ip address in that subnet. So if you got an ip address, that is good.
Now you just have to make sure proper traffic is routed through it successfully. The command
show openvpn status client
should show some info that there is traffic. I run OpenVPN servers on my ERL for remote access to my home network. I don't yet client to a VPN service. So I am sure there are others here that could help you better with this part.
