This will simplify your setup, all network routing, firewall and NAT will happen on ER-X only.
If the ASUS is put in AP mode as it should be for this, that alone turns off all services including DHCP and makes everything act like a switch including LAN ports, WAN port, standard SSIDs and guest SSIDs. So it is ok to use either the WAN port or any LAN port.
