I am going to agree with you, I think my suggestion would be more for the UniFi product line.
Although many of the "hardware switch" chips, also support L3 as well as L2 functionality, so if that is true for the hardware that Ubiquiti is using, they could do both in one model.
I think there are requirements where having the L3 and the L2 functionality in separate devices, I think there is also a requirement for having them merged into one device.
I know that many of Cisco's switches have L3 support in hardware (wire speed) and have had it for over a decade, they started with doing their own switching ASICS. I would assume that by now that functionality would have made it to the commodity switching semiconductors, but I do not know that market.
