IDF = Intermediate Distribution Frame, which could be just a switch to act a as repeater between cable runs over 100 meters. Needing more than 100 meters (328 feet) in a single run is rare inside even large (~5000 sq ft) homes. Maybe if you have a long driveway and need to reach the front gate.
