OK got a couple updates:
First, putting the cable modem in bridge mode bricked everything somehow. It killed it's wifi as it said it would in the manual, but I also couldn't get it to pass through to the ERX (or if it was I couldn't see it).
Second, for the moment I have the cable running between upsatirs and downstairs connected to the upstairs ERX eth1 and directly to the ASUS wireless router's internet in jack on the main floor. When I do this and set it up to be on the 192.168.10.0/24 subnet it successfully pulls an IP from the ERX but no internet (tested it while both in bridge mode and without it).
