I Do Not have comcast nor a cable box that gets a ip but i can tell you i have tried all comsumer based internet setup's for home networking and everything so far has worked.

Also  what type of modem is it? can you view the ip it gets? does it use igmp? all this adds up and you might have to do some CLI with igmp (  ) but we can help with that if need be.
