The ER-L has a dual core, but offers hardware offloading capabilities that the 'little brother' ER-X does not. I have found that the quad core processor in the ER-X is more suitable for shaping above 75-80Mbps, but becomes inaccurate at much above 100Mbps, but works very, very well at ingress policing if that's something you're at all familiar with.
The ER-L is overall a faster router when it comes to routing overall packets per second, hands down, that's why it is faster, so for your particular application, I 100% recommend that ER-X!
