I have a really slow Comcast connection at home, 10Mbps or slower, so I knew that this wouldn't really show much of the ER-X router's potential... but just for kicks, I decided to run speedtest.com on the ER-X against my Linksys E2000 with Toastman Tomato firmware. See screenshots below. Do you see the difference?
I had forgotten that I had installed a simple network level ad-blocking script on the Tomato router. It doesn't always work as thoroughly, but in this case, it made a big difference.
So - here's a feature request to Ubiquiti: Please add network level ad-blocking, enabled by default. Then keep updating the ad definitions table, similar to how the Traffic Analysis definitions are being updated daily.
I'll start searching the forums for how this can be done on the ER-X manually.
ER-X does seem to be getting a lower ping! And slightly more DL bandwidth. If the 17ms ping improvement is reproducible, I will certainly want to switch to the ER-X immediately.
