Users reporting they are experiencing session timeouts

The topology is a ER8-Pro with 5 ES-48 switches behind it.  The users are using an old app that connects to the server using telnet as the background transport protocol and they often leave the sessions open for their entire workday.

 

I've dealt with this sort of thing on other types of hardware in the past and that's why I'm suspect that it's a TCP timeout setting.  I found a message in the forums that showed me the timeout setting which is currently at 7200 seconds but before I change that I want to do a little more troubleshooting to confirm my thinking is correct.

 

I am also seeing spanning tree topology changes every couple hours on the switches so I'm investigating that as well but I would appreciate some guidance with troubleshooting the session timeout settings, if there is a way to log when session are terminated due to timeout, etc.
